Updated DRAFT Event Calendar Available

It's April 1st, but we're not foolin'. We've finally posted an interim (Draft) version of the WKA event calendar on the 'Calendar tab of our web site. This version of the calendar reflects the latest information (or best guesses) of club officers and Event organizers. Their input is shown on the calendar in Blue text.

This is a transitional period -coming out of the lock downs of earlier Covid restrictions and with the pace of vaccinations accelerating. As a result, you will see some changes in the status of individual events. We've seen some cancellations in the early part of the year, some activities that have been conducted as virtual events, and some traditional festivals that have been revamped as Fun Flies in order to meet State guidelines.

As organizers resolve questions concerning State permitting, sponsorship, etc. they will send out notices that describe changes in their plans. We are working to be on the routing for those messages and will pass them on to you through an Announcement on this page or through our membership e-mail distribution.

If you are planning to attend a Festival in 2021, we strongly encourage you to check the organizer's web site or Facebook page for the most current information about the event.

An Update on Grays Harbor Festival of Colors

Grays Harbor Festival of Colors is sad to announce that the 2021 Kite Festival has been canceled. We would, however, like to invite one and all to come that weekend and enjoy the beach, town and some great kite flying regardless. My son, Kyle and I are still planning on getting in a lighted kite fly Friday at dusk- anyone care to join us? We are planning on having Kids Kite Making for our younger, budding, kite fliers. If anyone knows any kids who would enjoy making and flying their own kite- come on down. No cost to the kids and help as needed. We have miles of pristine beaches to spread out over so no social distancing worries. Please feel free to come out, do some kite flying and enjoy a great weekend at the beach with friends and family.

WKAs New Postal Address

For many years (actually, dating back to the mid-70s), WKA used a mail drop at the Pacific Science Center as its mail address. However, our experience during the Covid lockdowns and our desire to streamline our new member / membership renewal process have caused us to select a new postal service location that will be more convenient for Sylvia Bernauer, our membership director.

So, our new mail address is:

Washington Kitefliers Association
6619 - 132nd Ave NE, PMB 190
Kirkland WA 98033-8627

Please address any correspondence and membership renewals for the Association to this address. The Board is currently in the process of updating our printed material and Website for the new address.

By the way, we remain on good terms with the Pacific Science Center and, in fact, have talked casually with them about collaborating on some post-Covid flying events at the Seattle Center.
